Can someone please advise about insurance for France/Annecy and whether you need helicopter rescue cover? Coming from the mountaineering world where helicopter rescue/medical cover is quite standard I've not been able to find similar for paragliding in France.

Dear paragliding colleague,
3rd party liability is required throughout EU - also in France. In most countries this is compulsory and faultless coverage is requested.
Emergency search and rescue insurance is highly recommended as helicopter costs can soar by every flying minute and no doubt - those costs have to be covered by the pilot searched for or rescued.
Please visit www.flugschulen.at/axa/english - there you'll find the proper offers from AXA Insurance Agency for Air Sports.
Enjoy your flying in Annecy! Sepp
